We’re working on our house renovation room by room, and today we’d like to share our latest room with you - the pink room aka our living room! And along with that, some questions to ask yourself when planning an interior. You can also watch the process of making the room on our Instagram here, and a talk about our thoughts on the room here.

Some questions to get you started if you also have an interior project in mind:

What inspires you?
Before you even start tearing down the wallpapers in a room (perhaps even before you move in) start to think about your inspiration. It doesn’t have to be interior; it can be a place in nature you visited while traveling, a mood in your favourite tv series, the colors on a painting you love. But also of course, a Pinterest board with interiors you love is a great way to start! Try to dig a bit deeper, why does these things inspire you?

What mood are you looking for?
Maybe it’s not a specific color code on a wall, more a feeling you get from your inspirations? Does it feel cozy, calm, minimalistic or eclectic? Maybe your not able to recreate a room with three meter ceiling height if you live in a 30s apartment- but is there something else with that space that could be applied to your home? Does it have lots of plants? Maybe it feels spacious because there’s not too much furniture in it? Or it feels cozy because there’s lots of books?

What is the room going to be used for?
Not only in the classic terms of living room, bedroom, kitchen and so on - but a bit more specific. What do you do in your living room? Maybe you do lots of yoga and perhaps then you’d like to keep plenty of floor space empty so you don’t have to move things around every time you’re practicing. Maybe it’s a room where you also work but you want to be able to relax as well - maybe a desk with closed cupboards could work. Maybe you’ll have friends over often and you want it to feel fun and alive, then perhaps you could have lots of bright colors in the room.

What do you already have at home that you could use?
However much we love redecorating, we also strongly believe in not throwing things away and buying everything new for each make over. Maybe you have some things you’ve put away cause they didn’t find a right spot yet. Try those! Or you have a dining table that you want to change, what if you paint it and shorten the legs - could it be your new sofa table? We love thrifting but sometimes it takes some time to find the perfect object your looking for, in the meantime maybe something you already have can work and you can switch it out once you find your dream table/sofa/shelf. Also, adding a few new pieces to a room like some prints or cushions, can really change how your “old” things look and feel.

But, as always, most importantly - have fun with it! If you do use some Tropical Scandinavia goods in your home, we’d love to see! Tag us on Instagram and we’ll share your posts💕
