MAXIMALIST ART WALL
(and thoughts on creating an empowering home)

Are you feeling a bit stuck? One of our favourite things to do if we’ve hit a wall is to rearrange an actual real life wall! There’s something truly liberating that comes from moving objects around - it’s like the energy in the room gets new and fresh, and the mind hopefully a little bit clearer. On a cloudy day in July, we gathered some of our favourite art works, books and objects, and created what we simply like to call a maximalist art wall. Read along for some inspiration and our thoughts on the process.

Speaking of process, creating a home is definitely just that. Although we made this wall in a day (or 90 seconds as the insta reels will tell you) the process started long before that. Years of painting, collecting pictures and thinking about what makes us feel cozy and comfortable in our home. Further below we’ve listed some of the things we thought about before creating the wall.

Offset print The Path

  1. As mentioned, we were aiming for a maximalist wall - but at the same time, it’s a living room, and we wanted it to feel cozy and not overwhelming. Focusing on a few colors (but still leaving room for a bit of variation) helps to tone done the wildness a bit. We love the combo pink and green, so that’s what we went for, with a splash of yellow.

  2. Sometimes it’s tricky to get started - our best tip is to choose something you really love and work from there. Maybe it’s a big painting (like in our case, we started by hanging a big original painting with all our favourite colors), or a piece of furniture, or even a lamp. Once you have that set, it’s hopefully easier to start adding things that you think look good together.

  3. What is the room going to be used for? In our case, we like to read, play with our kid, meditate and hang out with friends in our living room. So we wanted the room to feel inspirational, energetic and fun - but also have the ability to turn towards a calmer view for meditation, that’s why we placed most art on one wall. We put inspiring books on a low shelf for easy access, and added some candles, cushions and blankets for meditating underneath.

For you though - it might be totally different! Think about how different environments make you feel. Do you get in a joyful mood whenever there’s lots of colors and patterns around? Or does a more calm palette make you feel at ease? Maybe you’ve always dreamt of making your own mural and that would make you feel really proud? Go for it! Use your home and the objects you choose to put in it as a way to empower & inspire you, and it will always feel great to be back home (even after a long lovely vacay!).
