A KITCHEN RENOVATION STORY
Better late then never as they say - last summer we renovated our kitchen and today I finally came around to do a little post about it. Our kitchen is located on the second floor facing south, which allows lots of lovely light to flood through the windows. We wanted to enhance that feeling of warmth and chose a yellow for the walls, which reminded us of the late summer fields surrounding our village. This in turn made us choose a heavenly blur for the ceiling, to match the summery fields. This is usually how ge go about it when we do things at home, we never have a strict plan to start with, we just make decisions as we go along - when something feels right, it usually is.
We chose to keep the original cabinets from the 30s, simply because they still look and work great. The renovation work included tearing down lots of wallpaper, plastering, getting rid of tiles above the zink from the 90s and lots of other practical stuff which I’m not going to get into here..

Let’s focus on the fun stuff instead - decorating! It’s a quite small kitchen, and we always love a round table, but it works especially well in a small space as it creates a sense of more space compared to a square one. We used an old kids bed which we found vintage as a kitchen sofa, because who doesn’t love a good lay down after a meal? We covered it with our sturdy cotton blanket Self care club as the original fabric had seen better days. We will probably not be able to not make an art wall above the sofa, but for now we love the simplicity of having one big print, this one from jenny o Jens, there.

Sometimes unexpected is the best - a couple of years ago we would probably never combine, yellow, red and blue which somehow makes us think of our childhood (not necessarily a bad thing but anyway) but here it just works. Also a result of a gut feeling!

We were very happy to collaborate with Klint colors on this project, who provided us with their amazing paint for the walls and ceiling. The yellow is Villekulla and the blue is Aloha.
