Traveling around Morocco in search of some mighty waves, we ended up coming across a whole lot of mighty carpets. The different techniques have been around for centuries, and the knowledge of carpet making has been passed down from generation to generation in the berber tribes. The symbols in the hand knotted designs often tell tales of the mountains and daily life, or sometimes just abstract expressions of the weavers thoughts. Occasionally, a child will be shown how to weave a thread in the carpet, and this is why random dots of colors can be seen in some designs.

Among the different techniques we especially fell for the Beni Ourain, a very thick carpet where both the warp and thread is lamb or sheep wool. It seemed perfect for cold Swedish winters, and turned out really nice for summer as well, as is often the case with natural materials.

If you have the opportunity, come visit us in Malmö and try out the carpets and feel the magic for yourself!
